And here I thought Jesus said: "You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

The film pulls few punches in its story of the hypocrisy, materialism, and opportunism at the heart of the evangelical world of Bible-thumping barnstorming revival troupes
I think that Billy Graham played this great movie in real life.

Donations: 2.....donated around $80 a year...our Kingdom Hall paid for too many remodels and always paid for C.O. & P.O. expenses...Hands always went up except mine when any money was to be spent for any project...never agreed with donating any more money since it was never a secret vote.
Ministry School : 3...gave # 3 talks but never went beyond that...hated public speaking and being critiqued
Field Service : 3...hated field service. hated ringing doorbells at 9:00 a.m. and handing out Awake and Watchtower magazines...never more than 8 hours per month...never had any pleasure in this activity
Answering at book study and Watchtower meetings : 3...being introverted, never enjoyed speaking in front of people
Attendance: 7...never missed any meeting, assembly...started to miss meetings the last 5 years as I became convinced this wasn't the ''truth''
Listening to music, watching movies : 3...I went to any movie I wanted to see...I went to many Heavy Metal shows...these old fools in New York didn't understand this music and I would never expect them to....music is between the ears...never understood why Metal music gets a bad rap..you like violins,I like loud guitars
Smoking, Drinking, Swearing : 10....never smoked, didn't drink any alcohol, or swore...I think I would of done the same as a non-Jehovah Witness...it's just who I am
Dating : 1....I met a non-Jehovah's Witness while baptized...she tried studying but never believed this was for her..she became my wife and we're still married to this day...had meetings with elders who tried to talk me out of dating a '' worldly person''...had members who refused to attend my wedding...my Witness brother refused to stand up in bridal party...went to meetings all by myself, my wife and I had no problems with me being a Jehovah's Witness...only problem we ever has was deciding what religion they would be taught..we decided that our children would decide for themselves after they left home

Does praying really matter? Where is the evidence?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inmatthew 7:7 jesus says: ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
for every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
or what man of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone?

Matthew 7:7 Jesus says: Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
According to Matthew 7:7 Jesus called us humans... evil.
We are told to give good gifts to our children . We are there to care for our children as infants, provide them food, shelter, medical attention, educate them, help them financially, and try to help them in any way because we love them.
Throughout history, humans have prayed for good health, employment, the end of poverty, the end of human suffering, the end of wars, the cure for cancer, the end of earthquakes...they go unanswered!
If this scripture is really the saying of Jesus, where is the evidence? Shouldn't this one scripture prove there is a God by his actions?

Have you ever gone back to a meeting out of curiosity?
by stuckinarut2 injust wondering if anyone has gone back to a meeting out of curiosity?
(perhaps to an area far from your old khall where you know no one).
with all the changes from 2012 onwards (videos, tv screens, new meeting format, new songs etc) it would be an odd experience to be in attendance!.

I attended the Kingdom Hall meetings for 42 years and saw behind the curtain. Once you know, there is no reason to return. It's all or nothing with the Jehovah's Witness religion. You can't sit on the fence. It is a religion where you need to be 100% in mind and body. If not, it will eat you alive.

The vague WTBTS Baptism question?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inacts 2:38 is easy to understand and easy to follow.
there are no words that are vague and need interpretation.
“do you understand that your dedication and baptism identify you as one of jehovah’s witnesses in association with god’s spirit-directed organization?”.

Acts 2:38 is easy to understand and easy to follow. There are no words that are vague and need interpretation.
“Do you understand that your dedication and baptism identify you as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in association with God’s spirit-directed organization?”
This baptism question is used on every new baptismal candidate. Everyone says ''yes'' to : “Do you understand that your dedication and baptism identify you as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in association with God’s spirit-directed organization?”
But, no one ever questions the wording. The WTBTS never explain what the words '' identify'' and ''in association'' really mean.
Are there any articles or Watchtower studies on this Baptism question or is the WTBTS being vague on purpose?
This baptism question raises lots of eyebrows ...........

The more I think about it, I really don't want to go back in time 200 years and have elders tell me what I can and can't do. I think that I will just pass on Paradise and enjoy the life that I now have and not live for the future paradise fairytale.
We studied many books which told us exactly what we needed to do if we survived Armageddon. First, birds would eat many of the billions of the dead and that the survivors would have to bury all the human remains and bones. After the cleanup, there was much work to be done.
The dead would be resurrected and we would still need to preach, teach, and help these newly resurrected with Bible studies. We would still need to attend weekly Kingdom Hall meetings with elders directing all the work.( I can't imagine all the new rules, regulations and burdens placed on every survivor)
Then after you survived Armageddon, ( if that wasn't enough ), Satan would still be alive ( why hasn't Jehovah killed him yet ) to tempt you and the newly resurrected for 1000 years. If you became unfaithful in that time, Jehovah would punish you with the ''second death.''
I DON'T THINK THE NEW SYSTEM MADE ANY SENSE!

How Many People Here Still Believe In “God”?
by minimus inbecause of this site i realized that there were many people who were active jehovah’s witnesses really didn’t believe in god at all.
i’m curious how many people believe in god?
i’m not interested in debating why you shouldn’t have a belief in a god or should.

I believe in God : the creation of humans, plants, animals, stars, mountains, lakes, oxygen, diversity, earth and the sun, the marvel of giving birth... humans and animals, how a small seed germinates and turns into a tree, human speech, animals that can communicate with sounds that are distinct from one to another, bodies that heel themselves, colors, etc.,etc,....to me there had to be a designer. I don't believe in the big bang theory or everything came from nothing.
I don't believe in God : natural sin, death, diseases, war, famine, poverty, rape, torture, starvation, earthquakes, drought, mental illness, suicide, cancer, going / being born blind, murder, addictions....etc. etc... why does a loving God allow any of these. If God was so upset with such a tiny matter ( supposedly Adam and Eve ate from a tree ) why doesn't it bother him even more on what really resulted from this sin?
